incremental game thoughts and reviews

a good excuse for me to replay thru some classics and get my thoughts down

here is a masterlist of some of the most prolific incremental games out there, though there is far more than this on the web

DodecaDragons

You have petted your dragon sufficiently.

a month of dragon raising

The first time I played this game, I cannot remember how long it took but I do remember being addicted. I would play as active as possible, something about the old school looking windows and the slightly different simple mechanics of each type of upgrade just really drew me in. Unfortunately, I got to the point that I could just not progress, I was just idling and idling without any end in sight so I finally looked into it and found that the game was incomplete. Okay, easy, I have experienced incomplete games, sucks but I didn't mind the thought of playing through this again. So I joined the discord, only to find that not only was the game incomplete but I found it was incomplete for a while with 0 intention of ever giving it an end at this point. I was devestated, but I finally closed the tab, shut the door on the game, but stayed in the discord of course.

Luckily for me(and many other fans) demonin started working on it again in October 2023 and there is now an actual end. Starting this lil incremental game journal gave me the desire to play again. I made it about a month in then tragedy struck as I was playing with pasta. And by tragedy I mean I closed the tab and then when I opened it the game had reset and I didnt have a back up.

So, dodecadragons take 2 and I still have not completed the game. I was so close to the end I just dont have it in me to start back up again yet, still love teh game though. It tends to drag on towards the end but it's so fun to see all the lil windows for each thing all on the same screen.

Shark Game

You are a shark in a strange blue sea.

a week or so of fun

I had never played this despite it being around for so long. I actually played the 'revived' version from a few years ago that aims to pick up where the original dev left off.

It was super cute, I enjoyed the lil illustrations and the different mechanics of each sea creature. There's a good bit of variety in the worlds that you prestige into with different sea life and mechanics in each world making it interesting for longer. There is no real end game though so I kinda just had to stop playing once I got bored.

a game about cats and society

3 days to complete

thoughts go here, probably a lil longer in text length. Maybe several paragraphs, one talking about what was good, what was bad, and overall perception of the game
